Apples and Orange

We've just been to Orange.  The Big Dude's little sister has taken up residence there for the next five years or so, so we went to visit.  I've been there before, but not since I was a wee lass from the Riverina region.  Before I moved to the Northern Rivers of NSW.  Long before I became a Illawarra girl.

It was pleasantly surprising.
Pretty trees.
Great parks.
Fantastic local produce.

I was rather impressed to discover that the local food drive is big there.  Even the visitor guide embraces sustainability and the 100 mile diet.

The wineries were pretty good too.
We do enjoy a good winery or two!

Is it bad that the kids do too?

One of the best things that Orange had to offer were the Apples.
We purchased some form a roadside stall.
Then we found a tree.
On the side of the road.
All alone.
Full of firm, crisp red apples.
Just waiting to be picked.

The big Dude pulled over.
He and the Chook walked down a well worn path.
We were not the first to discover this tree.

Together they collected some apples.

Until arms laden to capacity they were forced to stop.
Climb back up the embankment and share their bounty with us.

Not picture perfect.

But sweet and firm and crisp.
Cold from the air and fresh off the tree.
The way all good apples should be.

Great pictures - Orange is lovely! And, so were the apples!
